皆さん、こんにちはLFC代表のカワミツ です。暑い日が続いておりますが、いかがお過ごしでしょうか？

今日はアメリカで助産師を目指すKatieさんの紹介です。KatieさんはアメリカのThomas Jefferson Universityに通う学生さんです。普段はオンラインで授業を受けたりしているそうですが、カリキュラムの一貫で助産師クリニック以外の妊婦さんや赤ちゃんを扱う所で約8時間の実習見学を受ける為にLFCに来て頂きました。

LFCではよく妊婦の患者さんや0歳児の赤ちゃんまで対応しておりますが、あいにく今回はその方々の患者さんには巡り会えませんでした。しかし、普段妊婦の患者さんをどの様に施術したりするのかや妊婦にとってカイロプラクティックがいかに手助けになるかなどを話する事が出来ました。その一つとして、恐らく他の整体や接骨院などまたはカイロプラクティック院でもほとんど対応しない妊婦の患者さんに使う「Pregnant Pillow」という物があります。これは妊婦さんがうつ伏せになる時にお腹の赤ちゃんを圧迫しないように、まん中に穴が空いていてそこに赤ちゃんがすっぽり入る事によってうつ伏せでの施術を容易にする為の物です。

反対に助産師として今後やって行くにあたって自分が学んだ事として、自分のクリニックを開業したり依頼を受ければ病院へ赴いたり、またはクライエントさんの家を訪れてお産に立ち会うそうです。そんなKatieさんとは２日間の短い間でしたが、とても有意義な時間を過ごさせてもらいました。

Why did Katie, an aspiring midwife from the U.S., come to visit LFC?

Hello everyone, this is Kawamitsu, the representative of LFC. It has been a stretch of hot days—how are you all doing?

Today, I’d like to introduce Katie, who is training to become a midwife in the United States. She is a student at Thomas Jefferson University. While she usually takes classes online, she visited LFC as part of her curriculum to complete an eight-hour observational practicum at a facility that cares for expectant mothers and infants—specifically, a setting other than a standard midwifery clinic.

At LFC, we frequently treat pregnant patients and even infants, though unfortunately, Katie didn’t happen to encounter any such patients during her visit. However, we were able to discuss how we treat pregnant patients and the benefits chiropractic care offers them. One specific topic we covered was the “Pregnant Pillow”—a specialized tool rarely found in other bodywork clinics, osteopathic centers, or even many chiropractic offices. It features a cutout in the center that accommodates the baby bump, allowing the expectant mother to lie face-down comfortably without putting pressure on the baby during treatment.

Katie also shared what she has learned about her future career path as a midwife; she plans to open her own clinic, visit hospitals upon request, and even attend births at clients’ homes. Although her time at LFC was brief—spanning just two days—it was a truly meaningful experience for us all.
